Is energy drink healthy?

Many traditional energy drinks contain artificial colourings, preservatives and artificial sweeteners such as sucralose and acesulfame K. That's why it's worth reading the label. Where does the caffeine come from? Are there artificial additives? The ingredients tell you more than the words "energy drink" on the can.

That's the difference HÏ Drinks is built around. Natural caffeine from guarana and green coffee beans, with no artificial colourings, preservatives or artificial sweeteners. All the energy drink experience, with better ingredients.

What is natural caffeine?

Natural caffeine is caffeine extracted from plants such as guarana, green coffee beans, green tea or yerba mate, rather than caffeine produced synthetically in a laboratory.

The caffeine molecule itself is the same, but natural sources often release caffeine more slowly because it is bound to the plant's other compounds. This is often experienced as a more even energy boost without the same sudden crash afterwards.

At HÏ Drinks, we use natural caffeine from guarana and green coffee beans, not synthetically produced caffeine. It's a conscious choice because we want to give you energy from natural sources rather than a chemically produced alternative.

What is a good alternative to energy drinks?

The right alternative depends on what you're looking for. If you simply want to quench your thirst, water is the obvious choice. If you want a caffeine boost with fewer additives, green tea or coffee can do the job. But if you're looking for the energy drink experience without the high sugar content and artificial additives often found in traditional energy drinks, a natural energy drink is an obvious alternative.

That's exactly what HÏ Drinks was created to be. HÏ Drinks delivers the energy drink experience, but we've removed what most people would rather avoid: artificial colourings, preservatives and artificial sweeteners.

Instead, you get natural caffeine from guarana and green coffee beans, real juice and a low sugar content. So you can swap out your traditional energy drink without compromising on the experience itself.

How much caffeine is in an energy drink?

In Denmark, an energy drink may contain a maximum of 32 mg of caffeine per 100 ml (equivalent to 80 mg in a small 250 ml can). That's roughly the same as a cup of coffee. The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration recommends that adults consume no more than 400 mg of caffeine per day, while the recommended limits are significantly lower for pregnant women and children.

HÏ Drinks contains 32 mg of caffeine per 100 ml.

How many cups of coffee is an energy drink equivalent to?

A standard small energy drink of 250 ml contains around 80 mg of caffeine, equivalent to approximately one cup of coffee. A large 500 ml can contains around 160 mg, which is closer to two cups.

The exact amount depends on the can size and the drink. A 330 ml can of HÏ Drinks contains 32 mg of caffeine per 100 ml, giving a total of 105.6 mg. That's equivalent to just over one cup of coffee.

What are the side effects of traditional energy drinks?

Typical side effects include heart palpitations, restlessness, difficulty sleeping and headaches, primarily due to high caffeine and sugar intake. A study by DTU National Food Institute found that more than 40% of users had experienced side effects, and the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration advises against energy drinks for children, young people and pregnant women.

Then there are the ingredients. Traditional energy drinks often contain a range of artificial additives, colourings, preservatives and sweeteners such as sucralose, aspartame and acesulfame K. Although these are permitted, they are exactly the kinds of ingredients that more and more conscious consumers are choosing to avoid.

What is the healthiest energy drink?

There is no single "healthiest" product, but check the label for three things: 1) whether the caffeine comes from natural rather than synthetic sources, 2) whether the sugar content is low, and 3) whether it contains artificial colourings, sweeteners or preservatives. The cleaner the ingredients, the better the choice.

These are the criteria behind HÏ Drinks: natural caffeine from guarana and green coffee beans, with no artificial additives. Compare our ingredients with other energy drinks and decide for yourself.
